Pearl Jam And Dogfish Head Team Up To Create “Faithfull Ale”

October 10th, 2011 No comments

Yum. Belgium meets Seattle Rock.

Sam Calagione meet Eddie, Stone, Mike, Matt and Jeff. The band that keeps on giving, Pearl Jam, will collaborate with Sam and his juggernaut craft brewery, Dogfish Head, on a beer to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of “Ten” – one of the most prolific albums of all time.

The two parties have already brewed “Faithfull Ale” and plan on releasing it this month. This is the third brew concocted for Sony musicians, following the Miles Davis “Bitches Brew” and Robert Johnson “Hellhound on My Ale.” As part of the release, Dogfish will also re-release the prior two brews.

According to the Seattle Times:

Faithfull Ale, presumably named for Pearl Jam song “Faithful,” will be released later this month. It’s described as a Belgian-style golden ale that’s “delicately hopped to 20 IBUs and fruit-forward from 10 incremental additions of black currants over a one-hour boil.”

And it has 7-percent alcohol by volume.

In my opinion, thats a pretty radical brew recipe. I was practically astounded that Pearl Jam beer would not be NW inspired (coffee??? tons of hops???), but I am unsure how much influence the band actually had on the beer – perhaps none. In any event, a belgian golden with 10 additions of black currants? Sounds phenomenal to me.

According to Dogfish Head, the beer will be shipped to all existing Dogfish states. So Washingtonians can look out for it at the end of the month.

Washington Brewers Festival: Kenmore, Washington

Saint Edwards State Park

This is my favorite Washington beer festival. Its outside, has great food vendors and the line up of Washington beers is always impressive. Last year, the highlight of my day was Twangzister by Snipes Mountain Brewing Co. This year, I will be spending sometime in the Rootbeer garden, but I wouldn’t miss this for the world.

Washington Brewers Festival is the biggest and one of the longest running of the six beer tasting events presented by the Washington Beer Commission.

More than 60 breweries (50+ from Washington state!) will be on hand to pour more than 200 craft brews in this annual pilgrimage of 15,000 to Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore, June 17-19.

Washington Beer is recognized everywhere as being high in quality and taste thanks to the energy and creativity of the craft brewers and abundance of fresh ingredients available right here in the evergreen state.

Established in July 2007 the Washington Beer Commission represents all 145 craft breweries in the state with a mission is to ensure that more beer enjoyed in Washington is made by its own craft brewers.

Support your local breweries and Drink Washington Beer!

HOLY CRAP! If I lived in Chicago………..Dark Lord by 3Floyds….a vertical tasting. Oh my…

$100

Super rare, limited, vertical stout tasting!
Amazing food, desserts, coffee & beer!

You must be 21 years of age to attend, sorry kids!

A unique opportunity to taste four different vintages of Three Floyd’s Dark Lord Stout at Intelligentsia’s Chicago Roasting Works. Each attendee will enjoy a small pour (2.5oz) of Dark Lord from 2006-2010. Food bar by Michael Sheerin (Blackbird Restaurant/Three Floyds), dessert bar by Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate Restaurant), coffee bar by Intelligentsia. Only 90 tickets available! This event will sell out!

Dark Lord is the beer for which Three Floyds is most famous because it is widely rated as one of the best beers in the world. The brewery describes it as a “Gargantuan Russian Stout brewed with coffee, molasses, and honey.” It is sold only on one day per year, out of their brewery outside of Chicago. We have worked with them for the last 6 years, adding our Black Cat Espresso to the beer to give it a little extra complexity. For the last four years, we have squirreled away a case with the intention of putting on this event. A vertical tasting of this beer on this scale will never happen again! Representatives from Three Floyds & Intelligentsia will be there to chat with you about beer & coffee.

Homebrew and Bottle Collector Support Group: Boulder, Colorado

6:00PM-8:30PM @ Avery Brewing Company

Ok why haven’t we started something like this?!

Our first ever meeting was a great success!! Thanks to all those who made it with tasty homebrews and treasured bottles in hand. Hope you all enjoyed the Depuceleuse, 2008 Old Jubilation Ale and other brews that we broke out of the Avery cellars. Please plan to join us each month at 6PM on the THIRD MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH!

Group Info:
Have you ever crafted or aged a very special beer, only to serve it to a group of people that don’t know or really care what they’re drinking? It leaves you feeling hollow, right? That’s why we’re starting a monthly support group for homebrewers and collectors that meets on the 3rd Monday of each month. Bring your special beers down to the Tap Room (22oz. minimum) and open them around a group of enthusiastic and learned quaffers and revel in the time and effort that was spent crafting the beer. We’ll have the Barrel Room reserved and plenty of space to chat, sniff and taste! Each month, Avery Brewing Company will bring out a few treats from our own cellar to ensure a great selection.

This a free event, admission price is just a favorite bottle or two from your cellar or a homebrew of your own!

If you want us to write about an event or if you went to an event that you want to comment on, please email me at jess@beerblotter.com or leave a comment! Cheers!
